O magari se SANE venisse adottato pure su Windows... 
Magari con un frontend ufficiale Microsoft...
Io attualmente uso SaneTWAIN su molte macchine Windows, condividendo in rete (con saned) il glorioso HP ScanJet 2200c, che però è ingombrante. Una roba del genere mi farebbe davvero comodo
EDIT: Per la cronaca, lo ScanJet funziona col backend "plustek"
