Gentoo sul mio PC: xfce lifting

Ho impostato i permessi 754, togliendo quindi la x agli estranei.

se il proprietario è root, e ti logghi come utente normale è normale che non vedi le icone.

Capirai che non mi sta bene che per poter usare le finestre delle impostazioni devo abilitare anche gli estranei.

fai diventare quei file di tua proprietà e non di root!

Semplice.
Come ti avevo detto non aveva senso impostare le immagini come eseguibili: hai mai visto un .jpg essere eseguito?Io no.
Quello che facevi era rendere o meno eseguibile la directory: quella si che deve essere eseguibile altrimenti non si "apre"! (tutto in linux è un file, anche directory, hard disk, cpu, stampanti.... tutto è visto come un file!)
Ecco che ti ho fatto mettere, per la dir backdrops, lettura ed esecuzione per tutti e sola scrittura per il proprietario "root".
Mentre i file .jpg, quelli immagine, devono soltanto essere letti (r--) da tutti e solamente scritti (o modificati) dal proprietario "root".

Ho tutta una serie di collezioni di icone, ma non ho idea di come dovrei fare per usarle.

Volendo avere qualche possibilità di scelta dello stile delle icone, ho cercato scaricato e sistemato in /usr/share/icons/ vari pacchetti di icone. Sono 18 sottodir di /icons/
Però non so come dovrei fare per vedere le alternative e scegliere quali icone utilizzare.
Cioè scegliere quali icone associare a che cosa.
